First appearance court, also known as bond court, is held at the county's main courthouse in Fort Lauderdale. It's where a person who is charged with a crime is brought before a judge, who will determine whether there was probable cause for the arrest. The judge will also decide whether an arrestee -- who is innocent until proven guilty -- should be set free or held in jail until a bond is paid. Read more...
